Spent some time this weekend making our driveway nice and smooth.  I hadn't used the grader for some time so I had to polish some rust off the homemade cylinders. Sure beats using just the dozer blade.

They don't make loaders like they used too.  The luxuries are out of this world compared to what I used to operate as a kid.

It was kind of like field trials today at the pit.  Lots of loaders to play with.

We worked in some heavy bush. If you look close you can see the orange ribbon that we used to make a track through the bush.  The first picture shows what it looked like before we started  and the second one shows what the fireguard looked like after we were done.  In the third picture you see the other operator walking back through one of the soft spots that we worked through.  He is busy eating some of the food that got delivered to us right where we were working.  Kind of neat.

Spent the day at what is being called the Vassar Complex.  We all collected at the ballpark which was designated the staging area.   This where all the cats were told to be dropped off and then we were dispatched from there.  There were at least 2 helicopters and here you see one just coming in from checking the fire.  I assume that what he had seen this morning influenced where some of us got sent.  The second picture shows some of the terrain we cut fire guards in.  This day we spent the whole day working in spruce or pine and working on sand.  The path we made started out as a small trail or no trail and ended up a nice wide totally clear trail through the bush.  We just followed the ribbons that were placed for us by someone on foot.  We went up hills and down hills and along creeks and wherever they chose to send us.

Interesting weather this spring.  The snow is melting on the roof and when it runs down it leaks out of the drain spout and then freezes on the shrubs.

When our daughter and son-in-law put up this bird feeder for my wife they told her that it was inaccessible to squirrels.  I guess someone forgot to tell this squirrel.

We went to the Marchand Ranger station for a weiner roast.  I think this Whisky Jack liked the thought of our food.

Today was not a good day to drive fast. PTH 52 was a sheet of ice and some one had a problem.

Just spent 2 days getting educated.  I now know something about planning for emergencies.  Or at least this certificate says that I do.

A friend and I took our wives out for Valentine's Day.  We went to this cabin ahead of time and made a fire to warm up the place.  For supper we had waffles that we made on this old fashioned cooking stove.

Just what your average farm needs.  Surely must be some use for a dragline on a farm.  I saw it close to Dauphin.

Today we saw the Snowbirds at their home residence.  Shortly after we saw them here nicely lined up five of them left to get some fresh air.

We spent some time at this motel.  The water in the pools was nice and warm.  It made it nice and comfortable to go from the hot tub to the water slide without freezing to death.

This tree has fond memories from childhood.  I can remember it from 40+ years ago.  It's got character and I hope it stays for awhile yet.

Here is a nice sunset.  It's sort of sad when I have to get pictures from my sister.  Thanks, Bubba.
